Bastille Day // A Parisian Celebration of Independence

Bastille Day // A Parisian Celebration of Independence

Bonne fête nationale Française!

Bastille Day (July 14) commemorates the storming of the Bastille in Paris on July 14, 1789. The Bastille was a prison that represented the monarchy’s oppressive rule over the people of France. The peoples’ storming of the Bastille was a turning point in the French Revolution, ultimately pivotal to France becoming the beautiful country it is today.

We adore the City of Love and the people who call it home! Paris is home to such a rich history, vibrant culture, and delicious food. We dream of taking in the city views from the Sacre Coeur, witnessing timeless masterpieces up close in the Louvre, and enjoying a fresh, buttery croissant at a cafe along the Seine.

There are so many incredible ways to celebrate Bastille Day in Paris. You can attend a Bals des Pompiers (Fireman’s Ball) and dance the night away at a fire station. Paris hosts a lively parade along the Champs-Elysées. And you can witness a spectacular fireworks display, shot from the Eiffel Tower, from anywhere along the Seine River! We recommend taking in the display from Notre Dame, which is being built anew after the fire earlier this year, or from the Pont des Arts, the iconic lock bridge that crosses the river. This is the only fireworks display during the year from the Eiffel Tower, so it’s a fairly unique experience! No other holiday in France gets that honor.
Our Paris scarf was designed to celebrate the city and its lively spirit. The pattern is a twist on the classic French striped shirt with a splash of red, to be fashion-forward and elegant, just like its namesake city. To celebrate France and Bastille Day, we are offering a *FLASH SALE* on our Paris scarf! Visit waypointgoods.com to learn more about the scarf, the city of Paris, and to shop the sale.
